Located within 45/50 minutes from Greensboro/Durham, NC, Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) serves approx. 140,000 throughout the region. Through our affiliation with Duke Medicine and Duke Heart Network we are seeking two Interventional Cardiologists to join current Duke Cardiovascular Surgeon and Vascular Surgeon. Hired Interventionalists will help expand local cardiology inpatient and outpatient services and work with the other Interventional Cardiologists in town to provide 24/7 PCI coverage to the community. Ideally, one of the two new physicians will be peripheral trained. Both Interventional Cardiologists are encouraged to pursue an “”academic link”" with the Division of Cardiovascular Services at Duke Medicine, including research, teaching, etc. Danville Regional Medical Center provides two cath labs, one of which was recently udated with new Phillips equipment and capable of endovascular procedures. Duke Medicine will provide practice management, including billing and collections, compliance and risk management, managed care contracting and human resources. Duke has a longstanding relationship with Danville Regional Medical Center and offers a competitive salary and benefits from Duke University Medical Center, including relocation and sign-on bonus.

The Hospital
Licensed for 350 beds, Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is the most comprehensive source of healthcare in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina. The hospital has an active medical staff of approximately 140 members, and features the Heart Center of the Piedmont. DRMC recently entered a 10-year partnership with Duke University Health System for a comprehensive cardiovascular program.

Other services include comprehensive Surgical Services, 24-hour Emergency Services, a Home Health Agency, and the Center for Radiation Oncology. A skilled nursing facility, a Women’s & Children’s Center, Inpatient & Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, Pediatric Services, and state-of-the-art Psychiatry & Behavioral Health units round out the full range of services. DRMC was recently named one of the 10 most innovative hospitals in the country in its use of computer technology by the National Institutes of Health (along with the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins). The hospital also features a medication administration system with pharmacy robotic and scanning technologies.

The Community
There’s plenty to do and see in Danville. Millionaires Row along Main St. features beautiful Victorian homes. The newly renovated North Theater provides a venue for theatre, arts and music. Carrington Pavilion hosts top concerts. The “”Festival in the Park,”" held at Ballou Park in early May, features free live entertainment, craftsmen and artists, and the River City Chili Challenge. The Danville Science Center features hands-on exhibits and special programs. Virginia International Raceway hosts amateur and professional automobile and motorcycle events, driving schools, club days and private test rentals. There’s also the Danville Braves, the Rookie League team of the Atlanta Braves. Also, during butterfly season (April to October), don’t miss the beauty of the Butterfly Station and Garden – one of only a few butterfly greenhouses in Virginia.

Education is an important part of community life. Averett University offers 35 undergraduate degrees and three master’s degrees. The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, in affiliation with Virginia Tech’s faculty, conducts research in the fields of polymers, unmanned systems, high value horticulture and forestry, and motorsports engineering. Danville Community College offers many educational options, including an affiliation with Old Dominion University.

Recreation
Outdoor activities can be enjoyed all year thanks to Danville’s mild, four-season climate. The Dan River, which runs through the city, is a beautiful natural resource for fishing and also offers many miles of trails for walking, rollerblading, or bike riding. Bordering the river is Dan Daniel Memorial Park, 170 acres of wetlands and woodlands. There are many lakes within easy driving distance for camping, fishing and boating, including Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Hyco Lake, NC and Buggs Island Lake in Clarksville, VA. The beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway is less than an hour away, and the beaches of North and South Carolina are within a four-hour drive.

We are looking for cardiology coverage for both of our hosptials; a cardiologist for Medical Center North located between Arab and Guntersville, and a cardiologist for MArshall Medical Center south located between Albertville and Boaz. No coverage at Marshall Medical Center North at present. One cardiologist is located in the South end of Marshall County. This physician wants to remain solo, however is open to a shared call arrangement.

Cardiologists would need to perform heart caths as appropriate, take call for cardiology service for emergency department, inpatient consultations for medical staff, and see outpatients in office. No CV surgery available locally.

There may other call coverage possibilities that may be explored with cardiologist. However, there is a huge need for a cardiologist. It is the most common reason that patients are transferred out, and it is at the top of the list as a specialty that patients leave Marshall County for.
